I don't know about realeasing any built-in HD, but know this.

The 360 is pretty much the $300 dollar cheaper equal to the PS3.

they both have built in hd, partner. I think most games use 720p but there are some that use 1080 like halo 3. PS3 still isnt worth the buy until the next final fantasy or grand turismo comes out. I would have said gta, but that is coming out on xbox at the same time.

Playstation 3 is the only system that has HD built into it. X-Box 360 has HD-Upconverting, which just makes regular DVDs look HD.

I also read an article predicting that the systems will each come out with a different version, here's the article: Video Game Systems

xbox 360 has 0 upconverting capabilities even with the hd-dvd drive. It doesnt have an hdplayer like Blu-Ray, but it does play HD content from xbox live marketplace and most of the games dont use sd, they do use HD whether its only 720. so in that frame of mind, it does come with hd capability.

I dont care about HD anyways. HD tv shows and movies take longer to download More people have Xbox 360 and there are more games (although, I only play GH3 and COD4).

As for the Xbox, there's been reports of many problems but to be honest microsoft seems to sort them out rather well. I'm having a bit of a problem with games freezing, but it'll be sorted under warranty. I'd rather lose my console for a fortnight than have it fuck up permenantly after warranty due to me not sorting it now.

Still, I made a point of waiting for the elite to be out a while before I bothered buying one, all first-run consoles are usually shit.
