Hold up homies!

7 string guitars and 5 string basses are awesome because it provides a wide range for a musician to perform with. If you think it's for lazy people, what is that saying about Tony Campos or Dino Cazares?

Fenders....... Hhhhhmmm...... They just never appealed to me.

ESPs all the way. That's the only guitar I'll ever play. Everything else, there's always something wrong with them.

It's all about preference. Which kind of guitar fits your personality. Go to guitar center or sam ash and try the different models and brands and see which one fits you best. switching the pickups helps as well.

its just a mindset that you get in if you take alot of classes. the 7 or 8 string guitars do give you the option of dropping down 1 or 2 while still being in standard tuning.

I have the feeling that most people in this thread do not play an instrument. Actually it is quite obvious.

There are so many variables that go into a guitar sound that's it not even funny. Guitar, Amp, Pickups, Effects, even a damn cable makes a difference. Experiment and drive those annoying sales people at Guitar Center insane and make them work for their money getting you lots of things to try out. Hahahahaha

I have had several of the amp's wayne used. The MG and the VS100. I also own a Gibson Explorer Gothic and nothing get's the Static sound until you drop in the Seymour Duncan Sh-6 Distortion. Very tight sound for low tunings. Very. Once that went into the Explorer it was like "ahhhhhhhhh" that's the sound. Wayne could probably put that pickup in a Sears and Roebuck old school catalog special and it would sound like Satan himself ripping out Get to the gone.

Also a "real" Bill Lawrence pickup. One that you bought from Bill Lawrence, not the licensed ones are pretty awesome too. This is what Dime used. CFH and Vulgar used this and he even said this was his sound. Plus they are not expensive and hand made by Bill himself. They sound freaking badass in my Washburn N4.

So there is alot to it besides just the guitar. If you want to play heavier music definately get the SH-6 Distortion by Seymour Duncan. Even in a shitty guitar it sounds really good.

When you say build do you mean you want to buy the parts and assemble them?

If that is so you can actually get almost all the parts through Warmoth (http://www.warmoth.com/). They have every thing you could want in tons of configurations.

Making one by hand is no easy feat. I don't have the time to attempt it. Much less the tools.

You could but a pretty good guitar and put the sh-6 in it. Last time I bought an sh-6 it was $75 I think. It sounds good in gibsons, esp's washburns. I am sure it would be fine in a jacksons or ibanez.

Ooooooo I wonder how it would sound in a les paul. hmmm yes it may not be metal but that guitar is fucking phat with the right pickup. Just expensive as hell.

I guess that would only count if you bought the body blank from them. That might be building your own. The rest are kind of like kits.

I like anything from Duncan, really.

The SH-5 and SH-1 are what I generally use in most of my guitars. The guitar I am building right now has dual SH-6's though.

I don't really like Bill Lawrence, just my opinion. But his stuff is better than DiMarzio...

And for amps, I generally like all tube amps, not Solid State like the MG100. I use a Peavey Valveking half-stack. Tryin to get my hands on a 6150+.

Back to the guitar I am building, an Ibanez neck fell into my lap so I was planning to use that, but the Wizard neck is just too flat for me.

You can get a body from warmoth that will fit that neck and can have all holes pre-drilled or with the hardware you need like Tailpiece or tremolo.

No, I have all the hardware. I just have to finish the finsh...hmmm. Just a few clearcoats left. I just am not happy with the neck. Although, it isn't too bad. I could deal with it.

from what people have told me tubes are the way to go with metal, tho I have an mg100 and it does everything I need. I have and sh-2n and a sh6-b and it sounds pretty darn good. I want to get a les and I will get different pickups for that. any reccomendations? right now its looking like some emgs, but I will have to do some research before buying.

I won't lie. I have never heard of it but you got a good deal if it's a start out guitar.

Have fun playing!!!

Find some Static tabs. They are pretty easy to find. There are several tablature books you can buy that are pretty good too. These are going to be more accurate than some of the homemade tabs out there.

Once you get the tunings right the songs are not too hard to figure out and alot of fun to play anyways.

Tom a Les will sound great with the SH-6 and EMG's. For me it seems that the EMG's are kind of bright sounding but you alot of people swear by them.

As far as tubes go versus solid state it's really up to the player I think. I had the Valvestate 100 RH and it was cool and the MG is just fine like you said.

For recording I use Guitar Rig 2. I know I will hear alot of purists says, Oh my god that can never sound like an amp. I have A/B'd them and I can't tell the difference. Of course live I would be crazy to use a laptop and guitar rig. Latency for one thing and I am just superstitious maybe. I need those cabinets blasting me. I know it's not going to crash or anything. hahahah

But for recording Guitar Rig 2 into Ableton is awesome.

I want a les too. One of the Gothic series. Not made anymore but they are on ebay.

I just watched the Static-X home vid and noticed that Wayne is using a Les Paul for some of the tracks. I believe that Gibson Explorer is a '74 but I could be wrong.

I used a Les Paul for most of WDT, an Explorer for the next two records. Now days I can get any guitar I want, and I choose ESP. The End.
