An old article:
---------------------------
Josh Bell of Las Vegas Weekly writes: Wayne Static can read the writing on the wall. The frontman for industrial-influenced nu-metal band Static-X knows the genre that helped push him to success is on the wane. "The hard rock that MTV's playing and the radio's playing now is all that new, like, I call it happy punk shit, kind of silly melodies and stuff," he says with disdain. "It seems like that's what a lot of the kids are listening to nowadays." These are the words of a man who's losing his audience, whose brand of aggressive, dark, staccato heavy metal, topped with what some critics lovingly term "Cookie Monster vocals," is no longer in vogue.

Sanguine demeanor and declining record sales aside, though, don't expect Static to be writing any of that "happy punk shit" anytime soon. "Happy songs are boring," he says. "I just don't really ever feel that. I feel happy, but I never feel like writing a song about it. Intense emotions are what makes me want to write songs, and the most intense emotions are just like anger and hate, things like that. I'm afraid of happy people." Read more.

I know this is old, but I think your opinion haven't changed much. So Wayne, would you tell me what's the source of your anger, I mean is there an appropriate constant thing that makes you angry or it's always changing, so it could be everything?

I find that quote funny, because I think Static-X's audience is bigger than ever right now.

I actually remember reading that when the article first came out. It was a long time ago, yes/no?

2004 or 5. the band might not have as many album sales as they used to, but that doesnt compare to how many people go to the shows.

Yes, the metal music genre isn't as popular as it should be, but I have seen more and more Static-X lately. They played a clip of No Submission at an Illinois game. Shows you some people care about them.

Seriously, down in ABQ its ALWAYS a sold out show. I always buy mine presale, so I don't have to freak out.

It's quite possibly the places some of us attend shows, which are in big metropolis', are always sold out because we have larger numbers, I can totally see a show in BumFuck, Iowa (no offense Iowans) not being sold out regularly, ever been through one of those towns if you look a 'lil' different? It's not always a warm welcome, so if they dont' like the way they think you may be , they aren't going to your shows. The thing with X getting played at a football game? I think that's RAD! evil I watched an episode of the Henry Rollins Show (if you haven't seen it yet, CHECK IT OUT! IFC channel), where he tees off about people bitching about rock musicians being played on McDonalds commercials or being used to sell cereal or whatever. 'Rumor' has it these people are selling out by 'working for the man' and peddling his wares, when it's simply not the case. In a time where record sales arent' what they may have been in past times, it's nice to see someone I dig, whoever they may be, getting paid. The fact is the generation in charge of making all these decisions Behind the Wall of Marketing, is US. We like Static-X and Godsmack and some good head banging rock, and that's what we need to hear in order to be attracted. I'll buy your Shit Mr. Man, but rock my world in the process! headbang

I invite all of you who have never been to a sold out show of Static-X to attend one here in Vegas with us the next time they roll through. I promise you we won't disappoint! devil Besides, it's not like we don't have enough hotel rooms for y'all! rollin

You wanted the Best...You got it! The Hottest band in the world....KISS!!!

Truthfully the last Dallas show was smaller than usual. But Dallas is not known for being an industrial type music mecca. I would think that in the really big cities they would do very well.

I don't see the ticket receipts so I don't really know.

I only have one complaint. They always bring bands that are really not as good as them. I mean I would love to see a Static-X, Ministry, Prong tour.

These three bands have more in common and you can obviously see the heavy influence Static-X drew from them. Man that would be an incredible show.

Yeah that show would be cool, but all 3 bands are headlining bands and I don't think any of them would want to be an opener.

As much as I love Static-X I don't think Ministry and Prong would be ok opening for them, and I know Wayne is very happy doing headlining shows.

Plus I love the bands that Static brings out on tour with them. I almost always find a new band I've never heard of before (Opiate for the Masses, Bloodsimple, Sinisstar, just to name a few) or see them playing with bands that I already love (3 Inches of Blood, Otep, Soil, etc).

In fact in the 7 times I've seen Static-X headline I think there was only one band opening that I didn't like.

I saw one of those a few years ago, the first time I saw em at the galaxy. Back in the shadow zone days. They had an opening band that wasnt too good. and the singer wasnt taking it as well as he could have. I'd have to say not the worst but one of the most out of place would have to be Trust Company as the main support.

The best lineup I can remember was twisted method, skrape, and soil. And I would die if I could see Lo Pro again.

I love Soil! They toured with them so much, that it was actually weird to see Static without them! HAHA!

And Lo-Pro!!! Not too many know who they are. I was able to see them again on the Aaron Lewis acoustic tour. Reaffirmed how much I love them! I've also seen them open for Sevendust. Do you have their CD? I do, and I effing LOVE it!

My buddy went to that show with lo pro and sevendust opening up for staind at the palladium. he had free tix to that show.

when I got the lo pro cd, I went to the warehouse in fullerton where one of my friends was working. they only had 1 copy that came in on the release day. My buddy went down to that same store later in the day looking for it and found out the only copy they recieved was purchased. He was bummed until I told him I bought it there.

I loved that lineup. Actually the Static-X show I saw with that lineup was probably the most fun I've ever had at a concert. I have so many great memories from that night, I could easily say it was the best concert I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot of concerts.

Lo-Pro was good, but I saw them with Static-X and Staind at a strange setting. They didn't over impress me, but they were a decent opening band.
